Relax And Watch These Nyonya Cooking Recipes!

A lazy Sunday was spent blog-hopping to my faithful bloggers, be them local or international, I love to drop by and give a comment or two. One of them I visited was none other than Foongpc, I am sure many of us know him by now, his blog is visited by many daily, if you read his blog, you will agree with me that he really has a passion in writing and generous enough to give away prizes every now and then. This time he is promoting some online webisodes called Big Bibik And The Little Nyonyas.

Frankly I haven't watched them before until just some minutes ago. While watching on my laptop, my teenage girl couldn't help not joining me to watch the series. All about nyonya cooking style and recipes. Something very different from the shows we watched on TV and suitable for my blog here. Great acting to Big Bibik played by Kenny Chan is the main star, hilarious especially when the little nyonyas get a "bashing" sound on their heads when they couldn't get the things right! Go watch it, guys, gals... relax yourself and watch all the few episodes online here...

Aneka Selera In IPOH Garden

There is one stall in IPOH Garden Gourmet Square that sells tasty roasted duck, roasted chicken, roasted pork, roasted sausages.... and of course the sourish type of vegetables .. This stall opens at 6pm daily and even before it is opened, you can see people lining up or lingering around the stall waiting for the owner to open his stall.

When I am very hungry, I will order from this stall, Andy also loves eating from them... It is operated by husband and wife plus 2 helpers. IN another one or two hours, the meat mentioned above will be sold out, especially during weekends. So if you really want to try eating from this chicken duck stall, go as early as 6 or slightly after.... then you can get the opportunity to try out all their specialities....

i didnt order much this time..

Pan Mee In Perak Stadium

When Andy was back, both of us went out for dinner and we ended up eating at Perak Stadium food court. During the evenings, a whole stretch of stalls will be opened, depending on what you like to eat but most of the Ipoh's signature food will be there, though not as famous as others, you can still find what Ipoh normally offer... for instance, chicken koay teow, bean sprouts, curry noodles, fried mee various styles, wan ton mee, chee cheong fun, snacks like nyonya kueh, rojak, cuttlefish kangkung.. and many more...

This stall belongs to my friend... we love to come here to drink their blended dragon fruit juice which cost 2rm per glass. Lately they sell pan mee too... all operated by some foreigners and they are guys too... not to say they are very tasty but still the taste is fine with me...

My Chee Cheong Fun

My "yesterday's" breakfast in Cowan Street, corner shop famous for its curry noodles. But I don't really fancy hot spicy food in the morning, if stomach not good, whole day could be spent in the toilet....lol... My colleagues ordered curry but unfortunately, I didn't manage to snap them before they walloped ... it was kind of too late... everyone was kind of hungry especially in the early morning.

Mine was simple and yet sumptious, just chee cheong fun with pork skin and all sorts of sauces.. everything got! One of my colleague commented that she cannot take chee cheong fun in the morning, it sort of get stuck in her stomach....lol... as for me, no .. it is fine with me...

doesn't it look yummy?

few types of sauce...

and this is A Must Have too..

Home Cooked Dishes At In-Laws

In my Caring Blog, I posted my Mid Autumn Dinner at my own mum's place... but this dinner here was held at my in-law's house, a week before the actual day. My sister-in-law is a good cook, she does all these by herself, in fact on every occasion, she will cook as much as she can, including cheese cakes and desserts... I really salute to her!

The next special occasion will be in December, of course, none other than Christmas... she suggested doing some real western food this year... Well, I am sure she will do them just fine.. and all I do is to wait anxiously for the day to come ...lol... (hey, I do the washing up, u know...)

a dish the kids love... fried chicken

roasted duck

steamed chicken

stewed trotters with raddish

mixed vegetables

fresh lettuce to go with the meat

duck satay

chicken fish ball soup

Thank God for His Provision

Buntong Noodles In IPOH

Many Ipohians I know of, have not heard of Buntong noodles in town, near the Yau Tet Shin Street. Even for some who know about it, they did not talk much about this shop. As for me, I love the dry noodles, maybe it is because of the lard they put in it that makes it tastier. Other than that, the fried varieties of the fish paste are also nice, so is their beef stew soup as well.

Nowadays we do not have to take numbers anymore when we visit this shop... yes, u heard me right... take numbers! During the past years, one Apek would be at the counter giving out numbers to patrons....and one man with a microphone will call out numbers... lol.. something like visiting a clinic.... but now? No more, I guess business have dwindled.... Anyway, this shop is still worth visiting to... once awhile....

Dessert Snack In Cowan Street

My girl requested some light lunch, I am beginning to worry about her, she seems to be controlling her meals. For a growing girl, I do not encourage eating less, eating healthy is one thing, eating less than normal, I cannot condone. No matter how she reassures me that she is eating alright, I am still skeptical in whatever she takes each day. Just today she told me that she doesn't eat anything during her recess time in school. OH gosh, I didn't know that, I thought all along she buys something from the canteen... One glass of milk in the morning till 1pm or so? My stomach will be growling furiously!

It is difficult to force her to eat at this age, she is no toddler anymore.... so what she requests, I have to abide as long as she has enough food in her body.... now and again, she likes to eat in this dessert shop along Cowan Street, IPOH...

she likes her bubur cha cha..

chin tui...

yam cake...

this is mine...

and a plate of meehoon which i overlooked...
is this meal enough for her..

this is the dessert shop....

A Colorful Delight For Everyone!

When my Johor Bharu friends came to IPOH a couple of days ago, I took them to taste the famous fruits ice kacang in this food court along the Sam Tet Primary School, just opposite the old Odeon cinema. You can find none other place that sells like this stall, it is simply yummy. They decorated the whole bowl with assorted fresh fruits, the colour and the arrangement making the ice kacang too irresistible to avoid not trying.

Well, this is one of the delights in IPOH.. do come and try when you have the opportunity!

Our Secret Recipe Meal

Fernie wanted to visit Secret Recipe, she has been "harping" for it few days ago.  Since I also have a sweet tooth, I obliged willingly.   Upon entering, we could not make up our minds on which cake to order, one piece will be sufficient for both of us and we had a hard time thinking of which to choose.  We felt like eating this and that... hahaha....  Finally we settled for the below flavor and meal...

Now my kids are grown, eldest being 21, youngest 15, till today, they request for this dish whenever they come back from their semester hols or weekends, so here it is, I hope this recipe will be simple for you to cook for your kids as well and hope they love it too....

Kar Pin In Bendahara Road, IPOH

After purchasing some bus tickets for Andy, Kong and I went to Kar Pin coffeeshop to have our breakfast. We have not been there before, we always used to pass by the shop only. Parking is not very easy along the busy street but one can always park along Datok Road adjacent to Bendahara Road.

Upon entering, we saw a lot of fish balls, many varieties were displayed for customers to choose whatever they like and the waiters were waiting in line to take your order. Systematic.... :)

Lets Go Sun Mar Poh

My kids missed the nestum chicken in Sun Mah Poh.... and this shop only opens during weekends at night. Funny... Not sure why but each time I went during weekdays in the evening, it was closed. So I suppose they only do weekend meals in the evenings. We have been there few times, the price were very reasonable and it was always packed after 7pm.

To make sure we could get a table, we went there around 6pm this time... the crowd was not there yet and the food were served fast as well... I guess people like to have their dinner at 7pm, right?

first came the soup
Andy loves seaweed soup.
